I was particularly drawn to the ‘Design since 1945’ part of the displays at the V&A. The modernist era of design shows the extent to how design became more artistic in a functional way. Things like bookshelves became more exciting and aesthetic, but without losing their function. This opened a door to contemporary design and ideas to stretch the boundaries of what furniture and appliances can really look like.
This particularly influenced me as I was able to see that art can be made functional as well as being a piece simply to look at. This then can become a next step to making art more of a part of the lives that the average person lives.
